A full-text index over every message — 50,000+ mails return instantly. Speak its language: from:*school.org, is:human, has:attachment — filters become chips as you type, with live counts. Save any search as a Nest and it lives in your sidebar like a mailbox.
Mail from people, not machinery
Vireo screens every message from its raw headers — no cloud, no ML service — and separates mail a person wrote from newsletters, receipts, and notifications. It knows your correspondents, too: is:human is:unread is the mail actually waiting on you, is:stranger is the cold outreach, is:automated is everything a robot sent.
A reader that tames ugly mail
Every message is re-typeset into clean, readable text — no blinding HTML, no jarring fonts. Remote images and trackers are blocked until you say so. Marketing mail finally reads like a letter — and attachments drag straight out of a message, onto your Desktop or into another app.
Compose without the chaos
A calm, constrained editor in the spirit of Notion and Obsidian — bold, lists, quotes, code, links, markdown shortcuts, and per-account signatures. Send holds every message for ten seconds of Undo, and forwarding sends the original mail: formatting, embedded images, and attachments intact.

Sync that heals itself
Deletes, spam filings, and rescues always finish — even when the server was unreachable at the exact wrong moment. Accounts sync independently, so one bad server never holds up the rest. Vireo keeps rotating backups of your read states and verdicts, and Restore from Trash brings anything back — even mail another app deleted.
Unsubscribe, with receipts
One click — and Vireo checks the answer. Failures surface on the subscription with a Retry button, every attempt is logged with the server’s actual response, and when your network’s ad-blocker breaks an unsubscribe page, Vireo names the block and offers real ways out instead of opening a doomed browser tab.

A live preview shows exactly what a rule would do before it ever runs — and everything a workflow does rides the same rails as your own clicks: undoable, logged, one message at most once.

One-line summaries and spam judgment from Apple Intelligence — fully on-device, nothing to set up, works on a plane — or from any endpoint you run, like Ollama. Tune its voice with your own standing instructions, and audit every request in a call log that names the engine that answered. Until you pick one, it’s completely dormant: zero AI buttons, zero AI network calls.
A spam filter that takes correction
Every verdict you hand down becomes a visible rule in Settings — inspect it, undo it, and watch it teach the filter about that sender and their whole domain. Your corrections are permanent: Vireo never flips them back on its own. A bundled Bayesian filter does the classic work locally, and the assistant catches the phishing and scams it misses.
A door for your AI agents
An opt-in, localhost-only MCP server lets Claude — or any agent — search your mail in Vireo’s own syntax, read threads, triage, draft replies, even draft workflows. Anything an agent creates arrives switched off until you review it, drafts open in Vireo for your approval, and nothing is ever sent for you. Token authentication is one toggle away.
